Dysport is a protein extracted from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The protein was initially used for the treatments of motor disorders and various kinds of involuntary muscular spasms, including cerebral palsy. It was further developed to treat a wide variety of neuromuscular disorders. Dysport is licensed in over 60 countries such as Asia, and South America with more then 12 years of clinical experience. Dysport was developed in the United Kingdom in the early 1990s and was used to treat abnormal head position and neck pain that happens with cervical dystonia. Dysport temporary improves moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, frown lines and, crows feet.
What is the Difference between Botox and Dysport?
Dysport consists of the same basic ingredient as Botox which is Botlulinum Toxin A. This would be similar to asking what is the basic difference between Bayer Aspirin, Bufferin, Excedrin, Anacin, etc.? The answer is that they are all basically the same: In a recent study, Dysport was shown to last of equal duration during multiple injections.
Dosage Difference between Botox and Dysport
Dysport’s unit size does differ from Botox Cosmetic the unit size of Dysport is smaller and according to the FDA, a minimum of 2.5 times more units of Dysport is needed to achieve the same effect as Botox. For example if you have had Botox in the past and received 20 units you will need 50 units of Dysport for an equivalent treatment.
Based on the manufacturer’s recommendation of units, the price of Dysport is comparable to the price of Botox. Also, like Botox Cosmetic, there is no downtime with Dysport.
