What is Cryotherapy?

Physician Skin offers cryotherapy treatments to target many different issues. Cryotherapy is an impressive technology that we use for a variety of reasons. Keep reading to learn more about Cryotherapy and the benefits of cold therapy treatments.

Cryotherapy Overview

We have the FrozenC Cryotherapy Machine, which delivers concentrated Cryogen at around -108º Fahrenheit. In essence, it uses a cooling therapy to expose your treatment area to extreme temperatures for a short amount of time. By doing this, the coldness increases blood flow, flooding the treatment area with oxygen to rejuvenate tissues. It’s a perfect complement to painful procedures (both before and after) to reduce inflammation, calm redness, minimize bruising, and shorten downtime. Furthermore, cryotherapy is shown to have some impressive anti-aging benefits for your skin, such as reduced pore size and improved skin tone and texture!

The procedure will only last for 5-10 minutes while the cold is applied to your treatment area. Cryotherapy works quite well in conjunction with microneedling, FrozenC Facial, Baby Angel Glow, acne treatments, or for facial redness.

What Does Cryotherapy Feel Like?

Cryotherapy can be quite a strange feeling when you have it for the first time. Obviously, being exposed to freezing temperatures will feel slightly uncomfortable. It takes time to adjust, but you gradually get used to it as the handpiece delivers the supercooled air. The natural reaction is to start shivering and see an elevated heartbeat. Don’t worry, these are normal reactions and you adjust very quickly to the cold conditions. It only lasts for a few minutes as any longer can present dangerous side effects.

Cryotherapy Benefits

There are lots of benefits of cryotherapy – many of them aren’t even related to your aesthetics. It’s seen as an effective way to treat muscle soreness and migraines, but it also provides lots of cosmetic benefits.

Cryotherapy is typically used before microneedling to numb your skin and enhance the treatment. It will mean you don’t feel a thing during the treatment, which takes away any discomfort microneedling brings. We also use it alongside our cosmetic facials because the coldness improves blood circulation and can encourage more collagen production.

The freezing temperatures are also very effective at killing acne bacteria, reducing your breakouts. We’ve seen it help with a lot of chronic skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that you see all of these things after a very short appointment. It won’t take up too much of your time, and you can combine it with other solutions as well.

Am I a Candidate for Cryotherapy?

The majority of healthy individuals are candidates for cryotherapy – particularly if you have any cosmetic concerns relating to your skin. It does a good job of treating skin conditions, acne, and rejuvenating your skin. However, it’s not suitable for people with medical conditions or high blood pressure. We implore you to please get a medical checkup before undergoing this treatment.
